Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice

The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.

Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.

The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.

His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.

Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the main straight.

Hamilton ended the session in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.

The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.

The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
