French authorities will start stopping migrant vessels in English Channel following UK pressure

French officials have consented to start intercepting migrant vessels in the Channel, following an extended period of insistence from the UK.

This policy shift comes after the British leader wrote to the President urging him to support the plan and saying there presently "have no effective deterrent" in the maritime passage.

French security forces have been authorized to intercept the small boats at sea, but exclusively prior to they've picked up their migrants, according to official confirmation.

French police have infrequently intervened to stop the heavily loaded boats leaving the coastline because it is considered too great a risk to both personnel and individuals.

"It is essential that we implement these methods this period... We have zero effective prevention in the Channel."

Now, a French maritime police spokesperson states personnel will start taking action at sea, with the objective of protecting human life.

Notably, the spokesperson excluded the use of nets to stop boats, which had earlier been reported as a possible technique to disable the propellers of the boats.

This determination to take action at all is a major advancement, following a short-lived shift towards a more aggressive strategy this warmer season, which ceased when the previous Interior Minister departed from government.

That was highlighted in July, in the run-up to a meeting between the UK leader and French president, when French police were observed wading into the sea to damage the hulls of a boat.

Currently French authorities will again be permitted to stop boats before they pick up migrant individuals from the coastal areas of France's north coast, however it's uncertain how the small boats will be prevented.

Powerful gusts are presently postponing the start of intervention operations and the human trafficking networks will be looking for methods to adjust to evade detection, as they have frequently done in the previous instances.

UK immigration authorities and the Prime Minister's office have been approached for response.
